Purpose and vision

Imagine you are dropped off somewhere on this planet. It is your mission to live your life any way you choose for the ± 80 years allotted to you.

If you could look back to the beginning, knowing what you know at the end of your life, how would you choose to live? What legacy would you want to leave? What stories would people tell? What would your obituary say? What would you like it to say?

Some people just try to survive: living day-to-day and dealing with whatever life throws at them. Other people have a clear direction and live each day by their own intentional design.

My daughter Alexandra knew from the age of 11 she wanted to be a lawyer. Every choice she made going forward was designed with that end in mind and she became one of the youngest lawyers admitted to the profession in Queensland.

For much of my life I just survived, bouncing along with my career and living from payday to payday. I was fortunate enough to have an intentional meaningful relationship with my partner that helped to ground me. My passion for all things relationship wasn’t revealed until my late 40’s. Now I have a purpose – to help and support couples to revive relationships and save marriages. This is the legacy I wish to give to the world.

My purpose/vision statement:

To empower people to gain a strong sense of who they are so that they can find meaning and love in close relationships

Find your purpose by answering these questions. Don’t compare your purpose with others. Remember: this is your life and living it meaningfully gives you a reason to live and the resilience to push through the bad stuff life throws at you.

Answer these questions to find your purpose:

  1. What is the activity where you feel the most empowered?

  2. What do you do that you love or are passionate about?

  3. What are the natural gifts or talents you were born with?

  4. What is the biggest obstacle you have overcome? Can you share or teach others to overcome their own obstacles?

  5. If there were no constraints, what would you like to change in the world?

  6. Who would you like to help?
